Motor torque matters more than top speed for hill climbing — a vehicle with a lower top speed but higher torque output can outperform a faster, lower-torque vehicle on an incline. This is part of why 24V vehicles, which pair higher voltage with more torque-oriented gearing, handle hills noticeably better than a 12V vehicle even though the speed difference alone wouldn't fully explain it.

Rider weight has an outsized effect on incline performance specifically, more so than on flat-ground speed. A vehicle that comfortably manages a 5-degree slope at 40 lbs of rider weight may stall on the same slope at 65 lbs, even though both weights are within the vehicle's rated capacity.
